Valarie Goorahoo

Valarie Goorahoo was born in Brooklyn, NY, in the same hospital as her mother, and raised in an Indo-Caribbean household on Long Island. To deepen her connection to her culture, she spent time with her grandmother in Queens, where a large Indo-Caribbean community thrives.

At 17, a trip to Trinidad and Tobago opened her eyes to the realities many women face within her culture. Determined not to fall victim to these challenges, she took action starting with healing herself. Through writing in her Miracle Journal, she gained clarity on her identity, built confidence, and found the strength to stand up for herself and others.

Valarie enjoys Bollywood dancing, performing arts, and learning self defense techniques. As a high school senior, she dreams of studying Fashion Business at the Fashion Institute of Technology, with aspirations of launching her own cosmetics line that celebrates and empowers brown women. Beyond beauty, she hopes to use fashion as a platform for empowerment.

Valarie’s ultimate ambition is to create a safe space for young girls. Growing up in an Indo-Caribbean household came with challenges, but she now channels her experiences into making a difference, ensuring others feel heard, valued, and safe, with her family self – defense class, hoping to teach others soon.
